A global, digital arms race is fuelling the future of the cloud. In 2020, cloud adoption surged during the pandemic as 62 per cent of Singapore Small and Mid-size Enterprises (SMEs) shifted their businesses online – this was a 30 percent increase from 2019, and also the highest increase among all markets surveyed in a research conducted.
The Singapore government has also further committed to migrating more of its systems to the cloud, with more than SGD870 million worth of contracts drawn up last year solely for this purpose – a move that is part of its five-year roadmap to shift the majority of its on-premises IT systems to the cloud as Singapore aims to accelerate the delivery and enhance the quality of government services to its population. The message has been received loud and clear by all: digitise or goodbye.
