Coursera, Inc. unveiled its 2025 learner trends for Singapore, based on insights from more than 1.3 million registered learners – representing over 20% of the country’s population.
Singapore’s position as a global skills leader is reflected in both national benchmarks and local learning preferences. The country recently secured first place in the Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI) 2025, recognised for its strength in generalist and adaptive skills such as digital literacy, soft skills and innovation capability.
Coursera’s data mirrors this momentum, with Singaporeans increasingly developing multi-domain capabilities across AI, data, cybersecurity, finance, operations and healthcare to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.
This shift reflects a growing need for talent who can pair technical expertise with business acumen, operational readiness and human-centric capabilities such as communication and collaboration.
AI and data continued to anchor Singapore’s learning trends in 2025. The country recorded one GenAI enrollment every five minutes on Coursera – up from one every fifteen minutes last year – contributing to more than 147,000 total enrollments to date.
While foundational courses such as Generative AI for Everyone and Google AI Essentials remained popular, learners progressed to more applied, advanced content including Google Cloud Fundamentals: Core Infrastructure, Sequence Models, and Generative AI with Large Language Models, underscoring the growing need for professionals who can operationalise AI across finance, logistics, digital services and healthcare.
Beyond AI, Singaporeans also invested heavily in building capabilities in cybersecurity, project execution, financial skills, personal development and well-being. The diversity of learning signals a workforce building both broad and deep capabilities to meet the demands of increasingly cross-functional roles.
Singapore’s commitment to lifelong learning is also reflected in the momentum of the SkillsFuture initiative, which enables citizens to upskill and reskill using government-supported training credits.
Since Coursera content became eligible for SkillsFuture Credits in August 2024, the program has seen a 40% increase in enrollments, with learners completing an average of six courses, including popular choices related to data, project management, AI, digital marketing and machine learning.
“Learners in Singapore are building the practical, multi-domain capabilities that modern roles now require – moving beyond simply understanding new technologies to knowing how to apply them effectively in their work. This balanced approach is essential for translating technology into real productivity gains,” said Ashutosh Gupta, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Coursera.
The surge in skills development is also translating into meaningful outcomes. Coursera’s Learner Outcomes Report 2025 reveals 94% of learners across Asia Pacific reported positive career outcomes like securing a new role or progressing in their current one, 49% reported a salary increase, and 96% reported personal benefits including increased confidence and a greater sense of accomplishment.
Coursera’s 2025 data also highlights a set of fastest-growing skills in Singapore:
- AI workflow automation: Skills like Tool Calling, LangChain and agentic systems that help build AI-enabled processes and automated workflows.
- Cybersecurity & digital resilience: Security awareness, risk mitigation and compliance skills that help organisations protect systems and stay resilient against rising digital threats.
- AI-powered creativity: Creative reasoning, collaboration and communication skills that enable idea generation, complex problem-solving and effective AI partnership.
- Healthcare operations: Emergency response, preventive care and patient evaluation skills supporting Singapore’s focus on healthcare capacity and community well-being.
- Financial intelligence & corporate accounting: Revenue recognition, balance sheets and cash-flow forecasting that deepen analytical rigour across financial and corporate roles.
