Facebook has announced its allocation of about S$4.75 million to support more than 800 small businesses in Singapore through a new grant programme.

In a media statement, Facebook said that each eligible business could receive a grant amounting to S$5,500 comprising S$3,500 in cash and S$2,000 in optional ad credits

Applications are open from Sept 16 to 22. Businesses do not need to have a Facebook presence in order to apply.

However, applicants must be physically located in Singapore to access the relevant application form, and will require their ACRA report to complete it.

To be eligible for the grant, the small business must have between two and 50 employees, been in business for more than a year and experienced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This grant is part of Facebook’s USD$100 million in cash grants and credits to support small businesses worldwide. In its third wave of studies conducted in conjunction with the OECD, it found that lower sales by small businesses lead to falling employment. However they suggest that selling more through online channels can help to mitigate the negative business impacts of the global pandemic.
